Hot on the heels of Skoda's release of the Octavia vRS plug-in hybrid earlier this year, Skoda has now announced that there will be two new vRS models to complete the Octavia range. These exciting new additions to the Skoda family are a petrol and diesel variation of the Octavia vRS, ideal for those that are in the market for a new car that uses conventional fuel as opposed to a hybrid.
New Octavia vRS Features
These new variations of the Skoda Octavia vRS range are available as both hatchback and estate models. One distinct difference between the petrol and diesel Octavia vRS modes when compared with the vRS plug-in hybrid is the ride height. Both the petrol and diesel variations are 15mm lower than the standard Octavia models, thanks to the newly re-tuned Signature vRS sports suspension.
Other exciting specifications that will feature on the all-new Skoda Octavia vRS include progressive steering as standard. The 2.0-litre diesel vRS is available as an all-wheel-drive option, which is worth considering for those that often drive on terrain and in conditions where extra traction will be beneficial.
The New Octavia vRS Engine Options
The all-new Octavia vRS is available as a petrol option, which matches the performance of the recently released plug-in hybrid variation. The petrol model features a 242bhp 2.0-litre turbo engine with a choice of either a seven-speed DSG automatic or six-speed manual transmission.
The new Octavia vRS diesel option features a 197bhp 2.0-litre engine,ideal for those looking to achieve extra fuel economy on their journeys. The diesel is available with a DSG, automatic gearbox, as the manual transmission option is not available on the diesel variation of the vRS.
The fourth-generation Octavias will use the same powertrain as the Volkswagen Golf GTI and GTD. The Octavia vRS hatchback is ideal for anyone looking for a new hot hatch. In contrast, the estate model offers the perfect family car, carefully balancing comfort with the power to deliver an exciting ride.
Exciting New Styling
To match the sporty specifications and performance of the new Octavia vRS variations, the model has been re-styled accordingly. The Octavia vRS features 18-inch alloy wheels, with 19-inch alloys also available. The rear of the vRS completes its sleek, sporty feel with twin tailpipes, rear apron with a contrasting black diffuser, and a spoiler, which matches the body colour on the estate and is black on the hatchback.
The sporty feel continues to the inside of the vRS with sports seats, contrast-stitched sports steering wheel, and ambient LED interior lighting featuring a choice of colours.
We will have to wait a little longer to get a proper look at the Skoda Octavia vRS, as the launch date is expected to be in autumn 2020. The final UK specifications and prices are, at the time of writing, yet to be announced. But, as the Octavia is Skoda’s bestselling model, we can be sure that the arrival of the Octavia vRS will be hotly anticipated.
