So are you struggling to reconcile the desire for a modern, emission-free family electric Skoda car, because you are trying to work out which one not only gives you the range your family needs, but you also want one with real space, and real value?
Then, as you look at the market here and consider why so many electric rivals also just feel too small or too expensive, as well?
All while you also do not want to sacrifice practicality for a badge or be that person who is constantly checking the range on a long motorway journey, as let's face it, that is just stressful and simply is not what sensible motoring is about.
As a result, you really do deserve a smooth, spacious transition to EV driving without the compromises.
Well in steps the Skoda Range of electric cars, including everyting from brand new ŠKODA ENYAQ iV, to the new, all-electric Škoda Elroq.
As here you are getting cars that are not just built with traditional ŠKODA values of simply clever engineering and cavernous practicality, but can also give you a class-leading range of up to 351 miles, a vast 585-litre boot, and a refined, comfortable drive all in one.
So let us delve into the Skoda electric range and see which one is right for you today, and answer every question you may have here as we do so.
You can use this table to quickly compare the key differences between ŠKODA's core electric and plug-in hybrid models.
This comparison table, for instance, focuses on the most popular high-range variants available (e.g., the ENYAQ 85 and the latest generation of iV models), but typically, you have:
Electric-only range. WLTP figures are for comparison; real-world range will vary.PHEV DC charging capability is available on the newest generation (Kodiaq/Superb) but is generally slower than pure EVs. Octavia iV typically supports AC charging only.
The electric range is currently made up of 4 main cars, including:
Starting off with the five-door ENYAQ iV SUV, this really is the cornerstone of ŠKODA’s electric offering, and it is also arguably the most accomplished family EV on the market today, in our expert opinion.
This is also not something we say lightly, either, as here it takes the brand’s proven knack for squeezing maximum space out of a minimal footprint and wraps it in a handsome, very stylish-looking shell.
As here, the ENYAQ iV SUV gives you a very large luggage capacity of 585 litres with the rear seats up. This figure, for instance, is then significantly larger than key rivals like the Volkswagen ID.4 (543 litres) and Audi Q4 e-tron (520 litres), making it a clear winner in our eyes for families who refuse to compromise on boot space, especially.
In its current model as well, ŠKODA has done a great job at refining the ENYAQ’s aesthetic compared to prior models, especially.
For instance, here it really does follow the introduction of the brand’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, and as a result, the ENYAQ now gives you a much sleeker, more contemporary look as a result of this.
For example, the front fascia is cleaner, with slimmer LED headlights bookending a reduced ‘grille’ area as it does so.
While some EVs shout about their electric credentials, the ENYAQ wears this quietly, all while its conventional SUV shape is reassuring as it does so, as it also offers you excellent visibility and a strong road presence without being ostentatious as well.
Its sculpted bonnet and high waistline also immediately, once you lay your eyes on it, give the car a very sturdy, confidence-inspiring presence as well.
Then, for those who want to turn a few more heads, the optional Crystal Face grille - which is an illuminated vertical lattice of LEDs - provides you with a dramatic, distinct look while you are on the road at night as well.
Your choice of wheels also ranges up to large 21-inch alloys on the higher trims, and they really do a great job at helping to fill the arches nicely as a result.
However, crucially, the ENYAQ does look like a quality car overall, and it easily sits confidently amongst far more expensive electric rivals from Audi and BMW as well, in our opinion.
This is where the ENYAQ truly excels and delivers on the core ŠKODA promise.
Because once you step inside, you are greeted by an interior that manages to feel both incredibly roomy and beautifully put together as well, being a space you will want to spend time in.
It also has a flat interior floor as well, which is one of the benefits of a bespoke EV platform, as this then creates much more interior space, particularly for rear passengers who enjoy limo-like legroom.
For instance, here three adults can genuinely sit comfortably across the back bench without much squabbling over foot space as they do so.
For those taller drivers among us we you will also appreciate the high seating position and generous adjustment options you have available to you here as well.
Gone are the traditional ‘trim levels’ for the interior; instead, ŠKODA offers you a clever system here of ‘Design Selections’, inspired more actually by modern living spaces.
For instance, here you have:
The Loft selection offers a modern, minimalist aesthetic with clean fabric and leatherette.
The Lodge selection is a commitment to sustainability, utilising wool and recycled materials for a cosy, natural feel.
The Suite & ecoSuite selections bring a true premium feel, featuring high-quality leather upholstery, often in cognac or black, with contrast stitching and electric adjustment/memory functions for the driver’s seat.
No matter the selection, the material quality is also consistently excellent, often outshining its direct Volkswagen Group siblings (the VW ID.4 and CUPRA Born for instance as well).
The dashboard design is also logical and stylish, and incorporates some very subtle detailing like faux carbon-effect inserts or leatherette dashboards, depending on your choice and what you want to go for as well.
Overall, the digital experience is centered largely around a fantastic 13-inch central touchscreen.
This is then positioned high on the dashboard, giving you a crisp, responsive, and easy-to-view system in our view.
However, more importantly, the latest software updates have made the interface far more intuitive than in earlier generations of VW Group EVs, as things that you will use constantly, like your navigation, media, and shortcut buttons, are really easily accessible, which is great to see in our view.
While much is then channeled through the screen, ŠKODA has thankfully retained a small, logical 5.3-inch Digital Cockpit screen directly behind the steering wheel, providing you with all essential driving information you need - from your speed, range, and navigation prompts - exactly where, as the driver, you will expect it to be.
This then prevents the unnecessary central-screen viewing distraction seen in some competitor cars, all while physical buttons are sparse, but the most important ones, like your climate control shortcut and driving modes, still remain sensibly positioned beneath the main screen and in easy reach as well.
We also really like the inclusion of ‘Simply Clever’ touches throughout the cabin, such as some very large door bins, a deep central cubby, and even a removable ‘waste bin’ in the door pocket, all of which make this a truly livable family space in our view.
The ENYAQ’s party piece, though, is arguably its sheer practicality.
Here, the boot space in the SUV model is a whopping 585 litres with the rear seats up.
To put that into perspective, it’s significantly larger than many conventionally powered SUVs and easily swallows a family’s holiday luggage, pushchairs, or a serious trip to the recycling centre in one go as well - space will not be something you are lacking here.
Folding the rear seats down also expands this cavernous space to 1,710 litres, and thanks to a low loading lip, the rear boot door is also wide, and thoughtful touches like cargo elements, nets, and hooks mean that your groceries won't be staging a jailbreak on the way home.
We should also note that there is also useful underfloor storage for your charging cables as well, so these stay out of your way when not in use, which we really liked.
The ENYAQ comes with a straightforward and highly capable range of battery and motor options for you to choose from as well, all of which have been designed to cover everything from the city commute to the annual summer holiday drive across the country as well.
You will also be glad to hear that the naming convention has been simplified following recent updates, focusing more on the car's power output and battery capacity.
At the heart of every ŠKODA electric car - from the ENYAQ to the hybrid Superb iV - is the advanced high-voltage battery system.
For the fully electric models, this is actually made up of modern lithium-ion batteries which are integrated neatly into the vehicle floor, giving the car's in this range a superb low centre of gravity and excellent handling as a result.
For example, in the pure electric models, you will typically see two main capacities, the smaller 58 kWh (net) pack and the larger, more popular 77 kWh (net) pack.
These large capacities are why models such as the ENYAQ 85 can deliver their headline range figures, for instance.
When you see a maximum range figure, like the 351 miles of the ENYAQ 85, this is calculated using WLTP technical procedures (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure).
What is WLTP? It is a standardised, controlled test used across the UK and Europe to give you a fair, comparative measure of a car’s range and efficiency.
While WLTP is far more realistic than older tests, the figure is achieved in a laboratory at an ideal temperature (around 23°C) and without using heating or air conditioning as well.
Therefore, your real-world range will always be slightly lower, particularly in winter or at high motorway speeds, so it is best to see the WLTP figure as a maximum potential, not as a daily target due to this.
The biggest influence on your actual range is the weather and your driving style, actually, something that many people don't understand.
Luckily, ŠKODA gives you clever tools to fight back against range loss, either due to bad weather, or let's face it, that occasional heavy foot.
For instance, these can consist of:
The ambient temperature is a notorious range killer, and when the UK mercury drops, the chemical reactions inside the lithium-ion batteries slow down, and power is also diverted to keep the battery warm for optimal battery performance and charging speed as well.
You should also always use the remote function on the MyŠKODA app to pre-heating or cooling the cabin while the car is still plugged into your home charger.
This then uses energy from the grid, not your high-voltage battery, saving you up to 10% of your range before you even set off.
The ENYAQ is also remarkably efficient thanks to its kinetic energy recovery system, often called regenerative braking.
As here when you lift your foot off the accelerator or brake gently, the electric motor reverses its function, slowing the car down and converting the otherwise wasted kinetic energy back into electricity to top up the battery.
Using the "B" (Brake) mode as well also improves this effect, making city driving surprisingly efficient as you recover energy every time you slow down.
ŠKODA clearly builds their batteries to last, backing them with a lengthy eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
However, extra bits you can carry out to make sure that you have the best battery longevity and health of your pack are, for instance:
For everyday use and to minimise battery degradation, it is recommended to charge your ENYAQ to a maximum of 80%, and only charge to 100% when you need the absolute maximum range for a long journey.
The charging curve of your car also dictates that the car accepts power much faster when the battery is nearly empty (say, 10-50%) and significantly slows down after 80% to protect the battery.
As a result, knowing this will help you manage your time at public rapid chargers a lot more efficiently, and also get more from your battery in the long run as well.
The UK Government still continues to offer the electric car grants on eligible zero-emission vehicles, which currently includes selected models of the ENYAQ and the new Elroq as well.
This grant can provide a direct discount, automatically applied by us at Heritage ŠKODA, reducing the initial purchase price of a new, qualifying car.
Grants are also available to help with the cost of installing a home charge point if you are a renter or flat owner, making home charging even more accessible. Always check the latest eligibility with us before ordering.
The real savings, though, come from ownership, and your long-term running costs are dramatically lower compared to a petrol or diesel car for a number of reasons, consisting of for instance:
Charging your ENYAQ at home overnight is significantly cheaper per mile than the cost of fuel, even with recent price changes, a full tank of petrol costs substantially more than a full "tank" of electricity.
Fully electric models like the ENYAQ qualify for the lowest rates of road tax and offer exceptional Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) savings for company car drivers - often just a tiny fraction of what you would pay for a petrol counterpart.
The car’s economical driving mode (Eco mode) and regenerative braking system encourage smoother, more efficient driving, ensuring you get the maximum possible distance from every charge, keeping your cost of electricity minimal.
These savings make the ENYAQ and Elroq not just an environmental choice, but a financially economical one, too.
Switching to electric should be simple, and ŠKODA, in our view, really has made sure that the ENYAQ (and the iV Hybrids) are ready for modern British roads. Here, you get a good array of charging options to choose from, depending on where you are. Understanding these options is key to making EV ownership stress-free.
This is the most convenient way to charge and represents about 80% of all EV charging.
The simplest method involves using a standard domestic three-pin plug socket, but this is painfully slow (often taking over 24 hours for a full charge) and is generally only recommended for occasional emergency use or for PHEVs.
The optimal solution is installing a dedicated home wall box (typically 7kW). Using this, the ENYAQ 85 model can be fully charged overnight (typically around 12-13 hours for a full 0-100% charge), making morning departures stress-free. For ŠKODA’s iV Plug-in Hybrids (PHEVs), a wall box will top up the battery in just a few hours.
When away from home, you will use the rapidly expanding public charging network, as these chargers vary significantly in speed and location:
These are often 7kW to 22kW AC chargers found at supermarkets, hotels (destination chargers), and offices (workplace chargers), making them ideal for adding a significant range while you are parked for several hours, costing less than the rapid options.
These are high-power direct current (DC) units, necessary for long journeys.
Found at motorway services and key road networks.
The fastest option, as all ENYAQ 85 and vRS models can charge at speeds up to 175 kW (or higher in some facelifted versions), which allows for a 10% to 80% top-up in around 28-30 minutes, meaning a coffee stop is all the time you'll need.
For those without driveways, local councils are increasingly installing street chargers - often lamp-post integrated units - to provide a reliable overnight top-up option in urban areas.
The latest ENYAQ models include battery preconditioning, and this clever system automatically warms the battery before you arrive at a DC rapid charger, ensuring maximum charging speeds are achieved, especially crucial during the colder British winter months.
While not yet standard across the entire range, ŠKODA is working on bi-directional charging capability, and this future technology, when released, will allow your electric ŠKODA to not only draw power from the grid but also send stored energy back to your home or the grid, turning your car into a mobile power bank.
For your ownership costs, these really are notably low.
While the ENYAQ and the Elroq show you ŠKODA’s electric prowess, the brand is also smart enough to know that for many drivers - especially those without regular off-street parking or who cover seriously high mileage - a pure EV remains a step too far.
Enter the iV Plug-in Hybrid range. These models combine the best of both worlds, with a very dependable petrol engine for long-distance cruising, twinned with a substantial electric motor and battery for zero-emission commuting and sensational efficiency all rolled into one.
More importantly, these PHEVs are offered on ŠKODA’s most popular, established models as well - the Octavia iV, the Superb iV, and the highly anticipated Kodiaq iV as well.
ŠKODA’s latest iV plug-in hybrid system, seen in the newest Superb and Kodiaq especially, uses a highly efficient 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which works alongside an electric motor and a significantly larger battery pack (often around 25.7kWh net capacity).
The headline feature of this new generation of iV models is the dramatically increased electric-only range, though. As here models like the new Superb iV and Kodiaq iV now give you an official all-electric WLTP range exceeding 60 miles - in some specifications, reaching over 70 miles.
This is all while its older models, like the Octavia iV, typically offer you more of a range of around 35-40 miles, which is still perfect for your daily and city commutes, and allows you to only need to switch to the petrol engine when you want to go further afield, let's face it.
As a reasult, this long range ability really is a game-changer, as it means the average UK daily commute can be completed entirely on battery power, allowing you to enjoy the silent, refined drive of an EV for your working week, then you only need to engage the petrol engine for longer weekend journeys or unplanned detours when needed - all of which helps you to keep your running costs drastically down over time.
For the Hybrids, here you have:
The Octavia has long been considered one of the best choices for both fleet and family drivers, and the iV PHEV version only improves this reputation.
Available in both Hatch and Estate body styles (with the Estate being the obvious choice for pure practicality in our view), the Octavia iV offers you a great blend of performance and low emissions, which is ideal for those looking to reduce their company car Benefit-in-Kind (BIK) tax.
With a total system output of around 204PS, it also provides you with some serious turn of pace when needed, making overtaking swift and effortless. A powerful 245PS vRS iV version is also available.
Agile and composed, the Octavia iV feels tight and neat on a winding road, with the low-slung battery aiding a low centre of gravity.
ŠKODA’s flagship model, though, the Superb iV (generally comes in Estate form, which is where it truly shines), let's face it, a powerhouse of space and luxury for you here.
Then, if you decide to opt for the plug-in hybrid version, this will then maintain your premium feel all while delivering you that executive-level efficiency that you would expect as it does so as well.
What we also like is that the new generation also delivers you a phenomenal electric range, often over 70 miles, making it one of the most capable long-range PHEVs on the market as a direct result of this as well.
The interior quality and sheer rear legroom available here also put rivals from more 'premium' badges to shame, making it a fantastic vehicle for those Mum and Dad "chauffeur duties" or long family trips alike as a result.
The new generation of the Kodiaq SUV finally introduces a plug-in hybrid option, which is perhaps the most ideal PHEV of the range, offering you that SUV practicality with pure electric running as it does so.
For instance, here the Kodiaq iV is typically a five-seater model to accommodate the battery, but the remaining cabin remains cavernous, giving you an absolutely huge boot capacity of around 745 litres, which is just insane.
For your power and range here it offers you 204PS system power and an electric range exceeding 60 miles, providing the ultimate blend of muscle and efficiency for a large SUV that you would also expect.
Then, with its higher driving position, coupled with the latest iV technology, all in all makes the Kodiaq iV a highly desirable family machine, let's face it, easily handling school runs, tip runs, and light towing duties with silent efficiency as it does so as well.
The latest PHEV systems also use the same charging ports as the ENYAQ (AC charging up to 11kW and DC rapid charging up to 40kW or 50kW on the newest models as well).
This means you can now get a quick top-up at a public rapid charger is now a feasible option, adding substantial miles of electric range in under half an hour.
The only real compromise in the iV models, though, compared to their petrol-only siblings, is a slight reduction in fuel tank and boot capacity to make way for the battery pack.
However, as ŠKODA cars are typically so generous on space to begin with, this reduction is almost always negligible in your day-to-day use, leaving the iV models highly practical despite their advanced technology.
Then, for the driver who wants the benefit-in-kind tax savings and the quiet refinement of electric mobility, but needs the safety net of a petrol engine, ŠKODA’s intelligent iV plug-in hybrid range is arguably the most sensible and 'Simply Clever' proposition on the road today that you can get, in our opinion.
This range has also won many awards for its electric abilities, including, for instance:
BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle), like the ENYAQ or Elroq, is powered *only* by the battery and electric motor - it has no petrol engine and zero tailpipe emissions.
PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), like the Superb iV or Kodiaq iV, combines a traditional combustion engine with a rechargeable battery and motor.
It gives you short-distance electric running (up to 70 miles) with the safety net of petrol for long journeys.
ŠKODA guarantees the battery longevity of its high-voltage battery for eight years or 100,000 miles.
Crucially, they also guarantee that the battery capacity will not fall below 70% of its original total usable capacity within that period, giving you excellent long-term peace of mind.
At home, we recommend a dedicated home wall box (typically 7kW AC) for reliable overnight charging.
Public rapid chargers use a standard European plug type (CCS), so all ŠKODA EVs and PHEVs are compatible with the vast majority of the UK charging infrastructure.
Extremes in ambient temperature can affect range because the car uses battery power for pre-heating or cooling the cabin and managing the battery's optimal temperature.
To minimise this, always use the remote app to pre-heat the car while it is still plugged in at home, drawing power from the grid, not the car’s battery.
Payment is usually managed via a specific app or RFID card from a provider, such as ŠKODA’s Powerpass solution, which simplifies things by giving you access to thousands of charge points across the UK and Europe using a single account.
The ŠKODA ENYAQ iV, its Coupé sibling, and the range as a whole, especially, really do represent a great translation if you are looking for a reliable, value-driven brand into the electric era.
All in all, these are not the fastest EVs on the market, as you won't be doing track days for sure, but that is precisely their genius. As here to us, ŠKODA understood that what modern families and company drivers truly want is a long-range electric car that feels reassuringly normal, supremely well-built, and exceptionally practical, while keeping your monthly costs down - and that's what they have delivered well in our opinion.
In a rapidly expanding field of electric SUVs, the ŠKODA electric range is not simply a good car; it is the definitive, simply clever choice for family motoring, reliability, value, and outstanding practicality will always win the day.
