What is Skoda Smartlink

Added: 14 March 2019

As technology continues to evolve, it plays an increasingly important role in our everyday lives, shaping how we travel, communicate, and interact with the world around us.

Škoda SmartLink is an in-car connectivity system that bridges the gap between your smartphone and your vehicle. It supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and MirrorLink, allowing you to safely access key smartphone features such as navigation, music, calls, and messaging through your car’s central infotainment display.

How to Set Up SKODA SmartLink

Step 1 - Is SmartLink already active?

Go to your infotainment system and look for: SmartLink / App / CarPlay / Android Auto icon.

If it says "SmartLink function not available" or the icon appears grayed out the feature may be turned off, affected by a software issue, or not included as a factory-installed option on your vehicle.

If this issue occurs, try our Troubleshooting Tips below:

Hard Reset

Hard Reset the Infotainment System - press and hold the Power button for 10 to 15 seconds. The screen should go completely black and reboot with the SKODA logo.

Check the Connection

  1. Use the original manufacturer-supplied cable that came with your phone.
  2. Plug the cable firmly into the vehicle’s main data-enabled USB port.
  3. Turn off Bluetooth on both your phone and the car, then set them up again from the beginning.
  4. Ensure your phone is unlocked and the screen is on before connecting it via USB.

If the issue continues after performing a hard reset and using the original manufacturer-supplied cable, it is likely that SmartLink is not enabled in your vehicle. Please refer to Step 2 for guidance on how to resolve this. However, if this resolves the issue, skip ahead to Step 3.

Step 2 - Unlocking SmartLink

If the SmartLink icon is grayed out or displays "Activation required" this feature may be locked on your vehicle. You'll need to contact your local SKODA retailer for assistance on this.

The SKODA dealership will then order the activation key assigned to your car's VIN.

Step 3 - Connect Your Phone

Apple CarPlay Set Up

  1. Enable Siri on your iPhone, then turn on Bluetooth.
  2. On the infotainment system, select the SmartLink icon.
  3. Open Settings.
  4. Go to Mobile Devices.
  5. Select your iPhone (or the device name shown).
  6. Tap Use Apple CarPlay.
  7. On your iPhone, select Pair to confirm the connection.
  8. Allow permissions to sync contacts and other data when prompted.
  9. Once connected, tap the Apple CarPlay icon on the infotainment screen to view and access available apps.

Android Auto Set Up

  1. On the infotainment system, select the SmartLink icon.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone.
  3. On your phone, search for available devices and select your Škoda under Available Devices.
  4. A passkey will appear on both your phone and the infotainment screen. If they match, select Pair.
  5. Allow permissions when prompted, including access to contacts and other data.
  6. On the infotainment system, select Use Android Auto.
  7. Tap Continue to proceed with setup.
  8. Ensure Location Services are turned on, as Android Auto requires it for navigation.

Once completed, your phone should automatically reconnect each time you enter the vehicle.

Setting up via a Wired connection

  1. On your phone, ensure Bluetooth & Location Services are enabled (and Siri is enabled if using an iPhone).
  2. Plug your original manufacturer cable into the designated data/multimedia USB port in the vehicle (usually marked with a smartphone icon and located near the centre console).
  3. Launch SmartLink from the infotainment system.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the connection setup.

Why Use Skoda SmartLink?

One of the biggest reasons to use Skoda SmartLink is because we live in a connected world where devices like smartphones are just so important and integral to our lives. We take our smartphones wherever we go and whether it’s to play music, connect with family and friends or even keep up with the latest news, it allows us to do all of these things with a small and commonly-used device. However, using a smartphone in a car is dangerous and the distractions could lead to you getting into an accident. As a result, Skoda SmartLink is just one of the many ways in which you can safely use your smartphone to access those common features without putting yourself at risk.

Skoda SmartLink itself is a very simple, effective and safe way to access your smartphone’s features without putting yourself in danger. If you spend a lot of time in your car for work or personal purposes then the Skoda SmartLink system is a fantastic way to ensure that you can stay connected with your smartphone while you’re in your car.
